Kyirong and Kathmandu linked by Pasang Lhamu highway and the trail pass via Dunche and Syabru Bensi one of the main Tourist destination of Nepal; Langtang Valley. Now Nepal government improving this high way in propose of both trade and tourist destination. Kyirong Kao valley 2800m is probably the lowest part of Tibet. It was very famous in early days on the name of Mangyul, later famed Kyirong “the valley of happiness”. Kyirong is divided in two parts, Kyirong Shang in arid barren land and Kyirong Kao in Green valley. In Tibet only the place plenty of vegetables are growing here, climates are very pleasant throughout the season. It looks like Nepal’s Alpine zone rather than Tibetan high arid plateau. Now Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu hold 2 Nights original passport with them on stamping group visa. During these days you will sightseeing in Kathmandu and if some group not like sightseeing than drive to Dunche ahead days for acclimatization. On the first day of Kailash Manasarovar overland Tour you have to drive early morning at 05 AM from Kathmandu to Timure, Rasuwa Ghadi after immigration formalities drive to Kyirong Kao. We acclimatize 2 nights in Kyirong Kao than continue to Kailash Manasarovar overland Tour. Kailash Manasarovar overland Tour was difficult in early days due to bad and bumpy road; lack of amenities all stuff for client had to carry properly from Kathmandu sandal to sleeping bag. Now a days Tibet is very good concreted road and travel by luxury deluxe bus; every year building new Guesthouses and adding more facilities. During yourKailash Manasarovar overland Tour drive; you have chance to encounter Tibetan antelopes, wild Ass, wild Yak, wild Dog and Tibetan blue sheep. You encounter nomadic life style of Drokpa next to the road. This Tour is focus on Kailash and Manasarovar only.   1. Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel

    You will be greeted in Kathmandu International Airport by Shambhala Holidays representative. From the airport you will be escorted to your Hotel. In the evening welcome dinner and discussion about Mount Kailash Tour. Overnight at Hotel


  2. Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing

    As you will spend the day in Kathmandu be ready for heritage galore. Kathmandu which once used to house three ancient kingdoms is rich in its cultural heritage. You will have plenty to see of the Newari arts and culture. Sightseeing for the day includes both heritage and pilgrimage spots all of which are counted in UNESCO world heritage sites.

    In the afternoon we prepare for Mount Kailash Lake Manasarovar Overland Tour. Shambhala Holidays staff will help you if need. Overnight at Hotel

  3. Day 03:  Kathmandu sightseeing and prepare for Mt. Kailash Tour

    Kathmandu (Hanuman Dhoka) Durbar Square is a public square containing ancient palaces, temples, statues and streets. There is an ancient pavilion, Kasthmandap, made by wood gathered from a divine tree, Kalpa Vriksha, build centuries ago. It is this pavilion from which the city got its name Kathmandu. Taleju temple is the oldest and the tallest building in the area, door of which is opened only once in a year during the festival of Dashain. The buildings in the durbar square are important link to the history of Nepal. Hanuman Dhoka is the name given after idol of Hindu monkey god Hanuman which is placed near the entrance of the ancient palace.

    At Kathmandu you will get to marvel the traditional art and crafts of the Newars, in the form of intricate wood work, sculptors and architecture.

    Afternoon prepare for Kailash Tour / Yatra you may have to purchase gears that might be required for your journey. The stores equipped with trekking gears can be spotted easily at Thamel which is a couple of minute walk from your hotel. You will spend this night in Kathmandu, finish packing and be well rested for the next day.

  4. Day 04: Kathmandu to Rasuwaghadi border and to Kerung (Kyirong Kao) 2800m

    Your Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar journey begins with the drive to Kerung (Kyirong) the border town that lies along the Nepal – Tibet border. The distance of 142 km, to Timure through the winding highway with green roaring waters of Trisuli River. The roller costar drive over the hilly highway route to Dunche the starting trek point of Langtang valley trek, remote tourist hub of Syabru Bensi and than finally to Timure the border point of Rasuwaghadi. After crossing the Rasuwaghadi bridge and the custom clearance; it will take an hour drive to reach Kerung (Kyirong Kao). Kyirong Kao is situated at the altitude of 2800m in green valley where you are going to spent your night. For the Kyirong Shang the main headquarter you have to drive further an hour, which is situated completely in arid barren land. Overnight at Guesthouse / Hotel


  5. Day 05: Acclimatization day in Kerung (Kyirong Kao)

    Kerung (Kyirong) is a quiet and booming settlement that falls on the newly opened International Trade route. It is essential to stay at least one extra night to adjust to the altitude because of the steep climb here onwards. Health experts recommend trekkers to stay active during the acclimatization period instead of being idle. Thus, spend the entire day either exploring Kerung valley. Overnight at Guesthouse / Hotel

  6. Day 06: Drive to New Dongba crossing Jerkhyung La pass 5300m & Brahmaputra River

    After a scrumptious breakfast your journey continues with a drive to New Dongba 4480m. The distance approx. 320 km will be covered in the duration of 7-8 hours. On the way the landscape will change drastically before your eyes. The lush green vegetation will disappear into pale yellowish bald hills. You will slowly approach Jerkhyung La 5300m. You will get spectacular view of snow capped peaks if the weather is clear. As you traverse miles after miles of barren land you will reach the magnificent Peigutso Lake and mastiff Mount Shishapangma is seen closely south of route. You will approach the great Brahmaputra River once you cross it you will reach the military base town of Saga.  And further 2 hours drive you will reach in New Dongba. Overnight at Guesthouse


  7. Day 07: Drive to Holy Lake Mansarovar 4500m.

    Journey from New Dongba to Lake Mansarovar will take you at least 5-6 hours as you will be covering the distance of approximately 250 km. You will pass through Mayum La pass 5300m. You will see ranges of magnificent peaks of border Himalaya in your south. You also see beautiful Lake Dungyut Tso before reaching to Manasarovar. You will be circling more than half part of the Manasarovar Lake today; stay night camp at Thrugo south of Lake Manasarovar. Thrugo is the holiest bathing gate in Manasarovar Lake. Most Shaman of Himalaya come to take holy bath in Lake Manasarovar and they only take bath in Thrugo. Overnight at Guesthouse


  8. Day 08: Puja and Havan on the Lake Manasarovar and drive to Darchen

    Early morning you will have beautiful view of Mount Kailash backdrop with Lake Manasarovar golden shine of Sun over Mount Kailash. You can meditate in the morning, after breakfast soon earth heat by sun than start to perform Puja and Havan. According to Hindu mythology Mansarovar was created by Brahma – the creator as a place of worship and rituals for his sons. It is said that whoever takes a plunge in the water will wash away all his sins. In Buddhism, Mansarovar represents the transcendent consciousness.

    After the worship and Havan at the shoreline of the crystal clear blue lake you can visit some monasteries like Thugu, Gosul and Chiu that are located on the shores of the Lake. Nearby there is another high altitude lake called Rakshas Tal, according to Ramayana- Ravan had meditated to Lord Shiva here before going to fight Ram. You will journey closer to Mt. Kailash today as you drive towards Darchen. Overnight at Guesthouse

  9. Day 09: Drive to Yama Dwar Parikrama to Dira Phuk

    Our parikrama starts from Darchen the base camp of Mt. Kailash if you like to make full Kora (circumambulation). Now days mostly drive to Darboche, Chhorten Kangnyi (Yama Dwar). The first leg of circulation will be on Van/bus it will cover the distance of about 8 km to Darboche. From Darboche you will begin the circumambulate Mt. Kailash ending the first day at Dira Phuk 4800m.

    Today you will observe the south face of Mt. Kailash which represents fire in Hindu mythology. You will begin by entering Yama Dwar also known as gateway of death. En route you will pass through a monastery called Chukku Gompa. You will be covering the distance of 20 km to Dira Phuk in the duration of 5-6 hrs. The trail will gentle along the Lham Chu River, as you slowly approach Dira Phuk you will notice some buildings. You can rest for the day or visit the beautiful Dira Phuk monastery that translates to ‘Female Yak horn cave’ in local language and learn about its myth and folklore. Overnight at Guesthouse


  10. Day 10: Parikrama cross Dolma La Pass 5636m to Zuthul Phuk

    Today early morning breakfast and Your parikrama starts at 0700 AM. You will climb steeper and strenuous as you will cross Dolma La Pass (5636m). You will get the stunning view of North face of Mt. Kailash. You will cover the distance of 23 km in the duration of approximately 09-10 hours including the stops.

    Just before you reach Dolma La Pass you will arrive at Shivastsal cemetery. This is where the pilgrims undergo symbolic death by leaving behind a part of them over here; you are reborn as you reach the top of Dolma La Pass. As you move pass the karma testing stones, you will arrive at Dilmala Rock. This rock is considered as Parbati wife of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology whereas in Buddhism it is Tara goddess of mercy and the protector of the pass.

    You will finally arrive at the top which is marked by thousands of prayer flags fluttering in the wind. As you descend you will arrive at Gauri Kunda – a frozen emerald green lake. According to Hindu mythology the elephant god of Hinduism – Lord Ganesh was given the Elephant head on this spot by Lord Shiva. As the trail gets dry and rocky you will arrive at a spot which has the foot print of Lord Buddha. You will descend down about an hour to Syabje Dadok and gentle walk to Zuthul Phuk 4700m. Just 20 minutes further Syabje is Khandro Shanglham adjoining from there you can see east face of Mount Kailash. Overnight at Guesthouse


  11. Day 11: Parikrama ends and drive to New Dongba

    Today after breakfast you will visit Milarepa’s Magical Cave monastery Zuthul Phuk it contains the hand and foot prints of Milarepa. The final leg of the Parikrama is easy. The route is dotted with meadows and streams. You will be elated to find the vehicles waiting for you on the other side of the hill Takser Takmar. After a successful completion of the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, you will drive back to New Dongba it will take 8-9 hours. Overnight at Guesthouse


  12. Day 12: Drive New Dongba to Kerung (Kyirong Kao)

    Today after breakfast you will drive back to Kyirong Kao via Saga Township. Overnight at Guesthouse


  13. Day 13: Drive Kerung (Kyirong) to Kathmandu

    After breakfast you will head towards Tibet – Nepal border Rasuwaghadi. After custom clearance you will cross the friendship Bridge and drive back to Kathmandu.


  14. Day 14: Transfer to Kathmandu airport and fly back to home

    You will be free till airport transfer. We will drop you to airport 3 hours before your flight and farewell.
